Crazy Seal Rescue: Slow Motion [Sound On]
Naude gives a little behind-the-scene narration on a very intense seal chase.
An adult female Cape Fur Seal was spotted by Antoine and Naude from Ocean Conservation Namibia (www.ocnamibia.org), she had an entanglement around her neck. Naude had to use the seal catching net to get her, she was too big to be caught by hand. To get to her, he had to zigzag through a large group of seals, all of them were running towards the ocean for safety. The seal was entangled in a thick loop of fishing line. She was not injured by the fishing line yet, but it was already very tight. It would have cut into her skin soon.
Nobody got injured during this crazy seal chase, but the video gives a good idea how most of our seal rescues play out. Seals are not aggressive by nature, but they will defend themselves when they feel threatened.
Let us know in the comments if you like the video - we had a lot of requests for more in-depth information and background stories, this is our first attempt.
