Seal caught by HOOK

Activists Naude Dreyer and Antoine Amory from Ocean Conservation Namibia (OCN) spotted a male Cape Fur Seal at Pelican Point. They could see through their binoculars that the animal was dragging a Snoek hook either from his flipper of his flank. Antoine and Naude used the custom build seal catching net to immobilise the animal, and they carefully removed the rusty hook. He will have no further damage or possible infection from the entanglement.
Snoek fishing is popular around Walvis Bay, Namibia. Old hooks and fishing line often end up in the ocean and cause seal entanglements. Without intervention, many animals will suffer an inhumane and cruel death.

A big thank you to everybody who has been supporting our work. We would not be able to rescue seals every day if it was not for you.
